BIOGRAPHY

Archie Noakes made his Australian debut last year at the World U20 Junior Championships competed in the 5000m and 3000m Steeplechase. He found the going tough, placing 18th in the 5000m (15:00) and 7th in his 3000m steeplechase heat (9:12.50).

This summer he has bounced back to terrific form with a series of qualify performances from 1500m to 5000m. He has clocked PBs over 1500m (3:45.75), 3000m (8:08) and his second and third fastest 5000m times 14:10 & 14:14. He placed second in the Zatopek under-20 3000m and then in January in Canberra secured automatic selection for the World Cross Country Championships by placed second in the under-20 8km trials race.

Archie Noakes began athletics at age 9, as a way to stay fit during the summer and hoping it would contribute to his fitness for the upcoming AFL season, his main sport. After participating in school cross country and at the Coburg Little Athletics Club, he realised middle distance running was his preferred discipline.

At age 12, there would be a shift in priorities as Archie begin attending weekly athletics training sessions and started to take athletics more seriously. It culminated in him ceasing football at the age of 15 to focus solely on running.

During the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons Archie was starting to produce some impressive 2000m steeplechase times, 6:09 and 5:45 respectively in those two seasons. The later time won him the National U18 title in April 2021.

He launched into his 2021/22 campaign for World junior selection shredding six seconds from his 1500m PB, running a brilliant 8:10 over 3000m and set incredible standards in new events, the 5000m with 14:05 and three sub-9 minutes times in the 3000m Steeplechase. He was clocking World U20 Championships qualifiers whenever he stepped on the track.
He still had to compete at the Australian U20 Championships which doubled as the trial, but he was majestic claiming the 5000m and steeplechase titles and booking his ticket to the World U20 Championships.

He described his thrill of competing as seeing the progress of all the training he has put in and described the importance of training partners and his coach.
“I am fortunate to run with Liam Adams, Olympic marathon runner, quite often. He is as gutsy as they get and I always look up to him for inspiration”.
“My coach Charlotte has been the most influential person. I credit my success to her style of training and approach, and she makes training always enjoyable. This is why she is my most influential person and the reason I have had success.

Sporting Ambition: To go to college in America and hopefully represent Australia in the future at the Commonwealth Games and Olympics…Hobbies: Gym, photography, music…Advice for your younger self: Continue to work hard and chase the dream, it’s all about the process and the journey. There will be good times and not-so-good ones…Interesting Facts: I used to make trick shot videos when I was younger with frisbees, I am half British and have been to the UK on eight occasions…Education: Year 12 at Northcote High School (2022)…Biggest challenge you've faced: I am lucky not to have faced any challenges so far in my life. I realise that I am very privileged…Dedicated athlete: I am extremely disciplined when it comes to making sacrifices and I understand that you have to sacrifice things in order to achieve your goals. The little things can make the difference. Therefore, throughout my teens and to this day, I am disciplined about what I eat, the amount of sleep I get and I keep my social life to a minimum.
