BIOGRAPHY

Daniel Milone started running in high school and after winning his first race, a cross country event, he was hooked. He was selected in the Victorian team and won his T20 para class cross country races at the Nationals that year in Queensland and Tasmania.

After joining his local club, Knox, he met his now coach, Gavin Burren, and came under his guidance along with his support staff Grant and Alan. The Milone family can’t speak highly enough about the guidance and development Gavin has provided Daniel over the years.

Daniel, who runs primarily the 800m and 1500m on the track has really reduced his times under his eight years with coach Gavin. Pre-COVID years, in 2019, Daniel was clocking times around 2:09 and 4:46 for his pet distances. Mid pandemic, in early 2021, Daniel had reduced his times to impressive marks of 2:06 and 4:19. During the 2021/22 summer, he was down to 2:03 and 4:15, and just missed the podium at National placed 4th and 5th respectively.
Last summer, he had the opportunity to wear the green and gold, selected in the National team for the Inaugural Oceania Global Games, held in Brisbane in November. He won the 1500m in a PB time of 4:13.92. The next month at the Vic Miler, he smashed that time with a 4:09.52 clocking. The times continued to tumble over summer with a four second 800m PB time of 1:59.56.

At the Australian championships in Brisbane, Daniel was awesome. In a highly competitive 800m he was first across the line, ahead of South Australian T38 athlete Angus Hincksman clocking 1:57.19. He won silver – due to the different classifications. The 1500m was another breakthrough for Daniel. He really mixed it with three elite T38 athletes, Reece Landon, Deon Kenzie and again Hinckman. Daniel was third across the line in an eight second PB time of 4:01.82.

In May, Daniel was named in the Australian team for the World Para Athletics Championships. Competing in the T20 1500m, he becomes just the fourth Aussie male to ever compete in this event at the world championships and the first Aussie since 2011 – 12 years ago.
