BIOGRAPHY

At birth Angus Hincksman was diagnosed with a brain injury. Growing up he suffered seizures and early on there was some doubt if he would walk. Angus, who wanted to become a footballer or a cricketer, started his journey in athletics running cross country in 2015 when he was aged 9, making the school’s able-bodied team.

Before his teens his pathway in para-athletics was confirmed when he was classified as a T38 athlete – with Cerebral Palsy. Angus joined a local Little Athletics Centre and the next year Southern Athletics club when he was 12. He really shone in middle-distance events, setting National Para records.

Under the coaching of Mike Butler and Simon Moran he developed through his teens, regularly breaking National para records from distances 800m to 5000m.

In 2022, aged 16 at the open National championships, he was competitive with a group of world leading T38 middle distance runners. In the T38 1500m, Angus defeated Tokyo bronze medallist Deon Kenzie and Paralympian Daniel Bounty, placing second to Reece Langdon in a personal best and National under-20 record time of 4:06.25. In the 800m he was third behind Langdon and Bounty.

Angus continued to progress during the summer of 2022/23, dipping under four minutes twice, with a best of 3:57.75. At the 2023 National championships he was again second to Langdon in the 1500m, but claimed gold in the 800m clocking 1:57.33.

In June Angus was named in the Australian team for the 2023 World Para Athletics Championships in Paris.
