Rising Stars On Show | All Schools Day 3 Preview

Published Sun 10 Dec 2023

One single state is poised to etch its name into history at the 2023 Chemist Warehouse Australian All Schools Athletics Championships today, and the battleground is set for a spectacle as some of the top junior athletes lay their claim for their chance at glory.

Izobelle Louison-Roe (NSW) will be out to keep a clean sheet as she takes to the final two events of her busy program which has already seen her salute in the Under 17 Girls Triple Jump and Long Jump, now taking to the high jump and 100m hurdles on the final day of competition.

With a 1.84m personal best to her name in the high jump, the 16-year-old will be one of two athletes chasing the 2024 World Under 20 qualifying standard of 1.80m, with world Under 20 finalist Toby Stolberg (QLD) also set to take flight in the Under 18 Girls High Jump.

A consistent performer on the National stage, Stolberg will have a golden finish to her school athletics chapter on her mind having cleared the qualifying mark seven times in her career to date. While the two will compete in separate competitions, the duo will be two prominent names to watch as the road to the 2024 World Under 20 Championships in Lima, Peru heats up.

Already victorious in the Under 16 Girls Long Jump and 200m, Amaya Mearns (QLD) will be out to add gold medal number three to her collection when coiling into the blocks as the hot favourite in the Under 16 Girls 100m. The 15-year-old is the only sprinter this season to secure World Under 20 qualifying standards in both the 100m and 200m, packing a personal best of 11.73 (+1.1) for her quest in the west, making her the only athlete in the field of 14 to have broken 12-seconds.

Already launching the discus to a personal best and Under 18 gold this week, Xylavene Beale (NSW) will double down in the shot put, having recently produced a 15.09m effort to add over one metre to her career-best and nail the 14.50m qualifying standard for the 2024 World Under 20 Championships.

Commonwealth Youth Games bronze medallist Charlotte McAuliffe (SA) posted a World Under 20 qualifying time of 55.30 in Friday’s Under 17 Girls 400m Heats, but the rising sprinter will be eager to close in on her 53.43 personal best in her bid for All Schools glory, taking on rival Shari Hurdman (NSW).

Adding to the 400m action, quarter miler Seth Kennedy (QLD) finds himself within reach of the Australian Under 16 400m record of 47.99, with the 15-year-old setting a personal best of 48.78 at the 2022 Chemist Warehouse Australian All Schools Championships in Adelaide.

Jasynta Lampret (NSW) had her first taste of Australian representation this year at the Commonwealth Youth Games and will be hungry to lock in a qualifier for Peru in the 100m Hurdles. With a personal best of 13.49 recorded at the Australian Junior Championships this year, Lampret is the red-hot favourite but will face teammate Ellen Murphy and her best of 13.84, recorded in September.

Day Three of the 2023 Chemist Warehouse Australian All Schools Athletics Championships begins at 8am AWST, with the livestream from 8am - 3.15pm local time.
