Moss and van der Linden lead the charge on Day 1 at the 2019 Australian All Schools Championships
Published Sat 07 Dec 2019
Queenslander Lizzie Moss has gone back-to-back in the U18 high jump and won convincingly in Perth today.
The 17 year old cleared 1.80m but unfortunately didn’t clear 1.82m.
Speaking after the event Lizzie said:
“I’m a little disappointed not making the ’82 but I’m still very happy with today’s result,” she said.
“My performance today has really boosted my excitement to try for the year ahead,” she added.
Another standout performance from Day 1 of the Australian All Schools Championships was by big hope leading into the Championships – Kayla van der Linden.
The West Australian athlete competed in the Girls U16 800m and was too strong for the rest of the field, running 2:05.94.
Not only did Kayla win the race but she also ran a World U20 Championship qualifying time (qualifying standard time is 2:06).
Talking about the achievement after the race, Kayla said:
“I’m not too sure yet if I will go to Worlds, I am only 15 years old – so it might be a bit too far, but we will see,” she said.
“From here, I’m just hoping to decrease my PB time,” she added.
The weather caused issues with the Day 1 timetable, but with the expected drop in temperatures for the remaining two days – everything should be running to schedule.
