Medal rush at World Para Junior Championships

A dominant performance by Australia has seen the team win a total of 10 medals during the first two days of competition at the World Para Athletics Junior Championships in Nottwil, Switzerland.

In the inaugural edition of the championships, jumper and sprinter Alissa Jordaan (NSW) has lead the way for the green and gold team of 12, winning gold in the T47 long jump, silver in the T47 200m and a bronze in the T47 100m.

Jordaan reached a personal best distance of 4.62m in the sand pit, while fellow Aussie Ari Gesini (ACT) also won a gold in the T35-38 division.

Jordaan ran a 0.43 second PB in the 200m to claim silver in 28.56, before taking 0.36 seconds off her previous best 100m time.

As temperatures soared above 30 degrees, Greg Luff (NSW) claimed gold in the T33-34 200m taking well over a second off his personal best hitting the line in 30.37 seconds. Nathan Donaldson (Qld) also competed in the same race and won bronze crossing in 33.78 seconds.

Samuel Walker (Tas) took silver in the T35-38 long jump, while Kailyn Joseph (NSW) won a bronze in the T37 long jump.

On the first day of competition, Tamsin Colley (NSW) won silver in the T35-38 200m stopping the clock in 32.13 seconds, while Sam Rizzo (Vic) collected his silver medal in the T51-54 400m.

The events at these championships are being run as mixed classifications and where there are more participants than lanes, events are run as timed finals.
