Australian athletics is experiencing a resurgence and you’re invited to be part of it. The Athletics Foundation is calling for tax-deductible donations to help Australia’s athletes shine on the global stage.

The journey to becoming an accomplished athlete is filled with challenges, both physical and financial. Costs involved begin long before an athlete makes it onto their first Australian team. Balancing training and competing with study, and add part time work for some, is challenging and one of the main reasons many athletes either drop of out of studying or walk away from sport.

The Athletics Foundation was created to work as a long term ambition of paving a sustainable future for Australian athletics and increase access to the sport for all Australians regardless of gender, ability, age or culture.

For many athletes Tokyo hero Rohan Browning, The Athletics Foundation has provided crucial financial backing which ultimately propelled him to his breakthrough and achieve his Olympic success.

“Receiving support through the Foundation played an instrumental role in helping me bridge the gap from junior athlete to the senior ranks. It made it possible to juggle university and training, without having to work within an inch of my life. It also allowed me to focus on training and give it the respect it deserves so I could do more at a higher quality to make it to the Olympic stage.”

For many other athletes, The Athletics Foundation has allowed them to purchase equipment to help them level up in their careers. Two-time Paralympian Sarah Walsh jumps using a prosthetic blade which can cost up to $14,000 for a custom pair. In 2019, she used a $2000 grant to replace worn-out parts and for spare parts to ensure she is always in a position to compete at her full potential.

“The grant gave me the peace of mind to be able to travel freely for competitions knowing that I always had spare parts and it has allowed me to make necessary improvements to my prosthetic to keep up with the ever-changing and improving technology. This ultimately helps me continue to improve and stay competitive at an international level.

“Without this boost, I don’t believe I would be able to travel internationally without the fear of something happening to the equipment I depend on. This would take away my focus from performance and I wouldn’t have been able to achieve the results I have in the months and years following the grant.”

Through a partnership with the Australian Sports Foundation, the foundation is now a fully registered charity with DGR1 status, meaning that individuals or entities are able to make tax deductible donations when donating over $2.

As a registered charity with DGR1 status, individuals, entities or grounds are able to make tax deductible donations to The Athletics Foundation.

As the golden decade of athletics begins, with Paris 2024 around the corner and culminating with the Brisbane 2032 Games, support has never been more crucial.

By donating today, you can contribute to building a solid foundation for a new era of success in Australian athletics.
