Davies and Dwyer to bolster Athletics Australia Board

Published Thu 01 Apr 2021

Athletics Australia’s (AA) Board of Directors will expand to nine members, with the appointment of Jill Davies and Megan Dwyer, effective immediately.

Davies and Dwyer have more than forty years of leadership experience between them, holding governance roles and Non-Executive Board positions in the fields of sport, banking and finance and as part of Australian and international organisations.

Dwyer is a Non-Executive Director at the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA), while Davies has been involved with the Olympic Games since Sydney 2000.

Athletics Australia President Mark Arbib said it was a major coup to have Directors of Davies and Dwyer’s calibre joining the AA Board.

“Athletics Australia is delighted to welcome two new Directors with such extensive and wide-spread experience across a number of fields,” he said.

“Jill and Megan join us at a dynamic time in the sport, ahead of the Tokyo Games and of course, as Athletics Australia and Coles Little Athletics Australia seek to merge to become one National Sporting Organisation.

“It is a time of immense opportunity for Australian athletics and I’m looking forward to them joining the AA family as we take these next steps forward.”

A company director and a management consultant for two decades, Davies joins Athletics Australia with expertise in the event management and event bidding space. She has held senior roles in the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games Organising Committee and the bidding teams of Olympic projects in London, Rio de Janeiro, Istanbul, Krakow and Budapest and was a key member of the team that recently secured the rights for Australia and New Zealand to host the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Davies has also served on the boards of the Sydney Olympic Park Authority (SOPA) from 2012 – 2020 and Place Management NSW from 2017-2020.

In addition to her experience as a Non-Executive Director for VAFA, Dwyer brings with her twenty years of experience in the field of HR and Culture. She has spent many years consulting to a variety of organisations to deliver business strategy, with a focus on CEO and Executive advisory support in workforce and organisation design, team performance, establishing sustainable values-based cultures, Employee Value Propositions and HR and Talent management support.

Outside of this, she has held Executive roles with Bank of Melbourne, Vodafone Australia and the Australian Red Cross Blood Service.

“Athletics Australia is approaching an historical time in our sport with the upcoming Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games and the OneAthletics merger,” Arbib said.

“The appointment of Jill and Megan will certainly bolster our ability to continue growing athletics at all levels, particularly with two World Championships, Birmingham 2022 and Paris 2024 all on the horizon.

“With their addition, we are well-placed to keep driving the momentum forward.”
