Chairperson of the Athletics Australia Foundation Andrew Salter said that it was great to receive a huge number of applicants.
“It was a great avenue to open for new ways that Athletics Australia can explore the hidden talent from within our country,” he said.
“Take Kang Nyoak for example, he is a young Sudanese Australian athlete that hasn’t yet developed into be a high profile athlete but through this process, we were able to speak to him and we can now help him,” he added.
Sarah Walsh (T64 Long Jump) who set her PB of 5.33m at the Canberra Track Classic this year said that the money will:
“Greatly assist in helping provide equipment such as a 2nd blade for jumping in case the current one breaks or has a problem while away competing. This second blade would ensure that I always have a spare and allow me piece of mind while travelling,” Walsh said.
Karyne Di Marco who is sharing the money with fellow coach Breanne Clement said that the money:
“Will allow me to know that I can support my athletes as best I can throughout training and competition,” Di Marco said.
Working in partnership with the Australian Sports Foundation, the Athletics Australia Foundation exists to provide the opportunity for individuals, entities or groups to make tax deductible donations and support the future of our great sport.
