Australia Welcomes 47 New World Athletics Bronze Officials
Published Mon 29 Jul 2024
Australian athletics is celebrating 47 new international technical officials following their successful completion of the World Athletics Bronze Referee evaluation earlier this month, marking a significant milestone in the development of athletics officiating in the country.
A total of 52 officials (21 women and 31 men) passed the World Athletics examination, including five already serving as international technical officials in specialised disciplines.
Among the newly minted officials are six pairings, a mother-daughter duo, and a father-son team. These combinations reflect the deep-rooted family commitments that are an integral part of athletics in Australia.
One notable inclusion in the cohort is Katrina (Gibbs) Morrow, high jump gold medallist at the 1978 Commonwealth Games.
At just 20 years old, Queensland student nurse Aidan Kruck has become Australia’s youngest international official. Kruck views this achievement as another step towards achieving his goal of becoming a Gold Referee at the 2032 Olympics in Brisbane.
“I look forward to the opportunities this will present for me and to continue contributing to the sport of track and field; maintaining a safe, fair, and enjoyable environment for our athletes and all others involved” Kruck said.
The next opportunity for Australian officials to advance their status will come later this year with an evaluation for World Athletics Bronze Race Walking Judges.
Australia's athletics community can take pride in the achievements of these elevated officials and the continued efforts to develop and support the sport at all levels.
Congratulations to all Australian officials on their achievements and we look forward to seeing them in action on the world stage.
