Athletics West joins PUMA family

Published Tue 09 Nov 2021

International apparel and high-performance giant PUMA will be Athletics West’s new Merchandise and Apparel supplier commencing in November 2021.

The new partnership is an extension of the largest apparel partnership in Athletics Australia’s history and will see a new range of merchandise, apparel, and high-performance kits created for West Australians.

Athletics West joins Athletics Australia, AFL Football Clubs Richmond and Carlton, and Formula One Team Red Bull Racing as part of the PUMA family.

Athletics West CEO, Vince Del Prete, said the partnership represents a “significant step forward for the sport in WA and highlights athletics’ growing profile in the state and across the country.”

“PUMA’s connection with the sport of athletics is iconic, and its history now includes Athletics West and the West Australian Athletics team. We are delighted to have a global brand backing our athletes and helping them go faster and further.” Del Prete said.

“The partnership between athletics and PUMA is a powerful one. Especially when you consider that the next generation of WA athletes will now get to wear the same brand that saw Usain Bolt claim eight Olympic Gold Medals.”

Working closely with Athletics Australia, the partnership is a clear example of the sport’s growing opportunities as One Sport. Athletics Australia CEO, Peter Bromley, said he was “thrilled to hear that more Australian athletes at all levels will be kitted out in some of the world’s highest quality apparel.”

“Puma has been part of the Athletics Australia family for a year now, with our most elite athletes set to wear the green and gold alongside the famous Puma Cat at major championships.” Bromley said.

“This new partnership, however, signifies a new milestone for our sport. By partnering with Athletics West, Puma is demonstrating their commitment to track and field athletes, from Little Athletics all the way through to senior competition. We’re looking forward to seeing each of our athletes in WA pursue their passion for athletics, with the knowledge that a family sponsor is behind them.”

Oceania Puma General Manager, Pancho Gutstein, said “We are thrilled to see our partnership with Athletics Australia expand to Athletics West. Athletics is the backbone of all sports and we are proud to be able to play a role in supporting its growth across Australia.”

Athletics West members, state team, fans and supporters will be able to purchase official PUMA apparel and accessories online in the coming weeks.

West Australian athletes will have the opportunity to compete in PUMA apparel at national competitions, excluding the Australian Little Athletics Championships.
