The stars of Australian athletics are bringing the show to a track near you this season, and to the screens of the Seven Network, live, free and in HD* on 7plus Saturday, 11 February 2023.
During the Tokyo Olympic Games, it was Australia’s track and field talent that shone brightest, featuring in six of the top 10 most watched events of the Games. That momentum is set to continue in 2023, with Seven broadcasting the 2023 Chemist Warehouse Summer of Athletics.
Seven will continue its three-year deal to broadcast the 100th edition of the Australian Track and Field Championships and will expand its coverage to the full suite of one-day events, including the first ever World Athletics Continental Tour Gold Meet in Oceania - the Maurie Plant Meet, Melbourne.
With world-class athletics, comes a world-class commentary team. Seven’s Olympic and Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games commentary team will front the coverage for the Maurie Plant Meet, with iconic sports broadcaster, Bruce McAvaney joined by Olympians Tamsyn Lewis-Manou and David Culbert in the box. Trackside reporter Jason Richardson will also join on-ground for both the broadcast and in-stadium commentary at the Melbourne meet, which is set to be the biggest event on the schedule.
Culbert and Lewis-Manou will front the coverage for the full series of Athletics Australia events, with special guests joining them for each meet.
Managing Director Seven Melbourne and Head of Network Sport, Lewis Martin, said: “As Your Home of Sport, we are thrilled to broadcast the highly anticipated 2023 Summer of Athletics.”
“With a world-class commentary team, led by the incomparable Bruce McAvaney, featuring three greatly experienced sports broadcasters in Tamsyn Lewis-Manou, Jason Richardson and David Culbert, Australians should look no further than right here on 7plus for the best of Australian athletics this Summer.”
Athletics Australia Chief Executive Officer, Peter Bromley, said: “Our partnership with the Seven Network, now in its second year, has taken our sport to new audiences across the country and we couldn’t be more thrilled to announce its expansion.”
“So many of our stars have become household names including Olli Hoare, Madison de Rozario, Rohan Browning, Nicola Olyslagers, Jessica Stenson and Ash Moloney just to name a few. Now sports fans can follow them on their journey to Paris 2024 and Victoria 2026, by watching all the action of our national competition series live on 7plus,” Bromley said.
