Athletics Australia partners with School Sport Australia

Published Fri 06 Oct 2017

Athletics Australia is excited to announce its partnership with School Sport Australia for the 2018 Australian Cross Country Championships.

This partnership will see both organisations jointly conduct the National Championship event on the 25th August in the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, with the School Sport Australia Cross Country Relay Championships on the 27th August, also in the Sunshine Coast, Queensland.

Since its establishment in 1981, School Sport Australia has been responsible for the development and promotion of school sport in Australia.

This has been achieved through the work of its State Member bodies which have accepted the responsibility of implementing School Sport Australia’s programs, assisting in policy development and providing, through their individual state networks, the maximum number of opportunities for students to participate in the broadest possible range of sporting activities.

“School Sport Australia is excited to renew its partnership with Athletics Australia to host the Cross Country Championships,” says Jude Maguire, School Sport Australia Vice President.

“The experience, expertise and resources that AA brings to our championships ensures a quality competition for Australian school students.”

Athletics Australia is proud to be back working with School Sport Australia, after events were held separately in 2017 due to reasons beyond the control of either organisation.

“It is great for Athletics Australia to once again be jointly hosting the Australian Cross Country Championships with School Sport Australia,” says Darren Gocher, Athletics Australia CEO.

“It is a positive development for the event and should ensure the best outcome for the athletes.”

The state bodies of Queensland Athletics and School Sport Queensland will form a working Local Organising Committee to plan and host the event.
