An open letter to our Australian Athletics representatives
Published Tue 30 Jul 2024
To our Paris 2024 and World Under 20 Championships athletes,
Your moment has arrived. We are now the cusp of a pivotal moment for both Australian athletics and your individual journeys, and we could not be prouder to witness this incredible chapter of your sporting careers.
The next 40 days are an exciting time for Australian athletics on the world stage. More than 170 athletes will wear the green and gold and represent our nation at the Olympics and Paralympics in Paris, and at the World Under 20 Championships in Lima.
For many, this will be your first national representative team. For others it will be another opportunity to add to your already impressive achievements.
Many of you will become the mainstay of our national teams between now and Brisbane 2032. A future home Games is enticing, but right now, all that matters is the next race or event you are competing in. Enjoy it and make the most of an opportunity that very few get a chance to experience.
To represent Australia in your chosen sport is a huge honour. It takes talent, but more importantly, it takes hard work, resilience, perseverance and determination.
Sitting behind each of you are people who have supported you to create a team to help you achieve your sporting dreams. Family, friends, medical staff, club officials, training partners just to name a few. Their dedication and guidance have been instrumental in shaping the journey to this point, and we’re grateful to them for their support. We particularly call out and thank your coaches who continually go above and beyond for you and our sport.
As you pursue your dreams, please know that Athletics Australia, State and Territory Associations, your clubs and the entire Australian athletics community are proud of you and stand behind you, alongside the rest of our nation.
