2020 Australian Cross Country Championships Postponed
Published Fri 07 Aug 2020
It is with disappointment that Athletics Australia today announces the postponement of the 2020 Australian Cross Country Championships due to the on-going and unprecedented challenges faced in battling the COVID-19 pandemic.
The event was scheduled to take place in Adelaide on the weekend of the 3rd & 4th October, with the support of Athletics SA. However, it will be postponed until a new date can be determined. Conversations with Australian Masters Athletics and Little Athletics Australia around a combined Cross Country Championship were well underway and will continue with the aim of creating a historic event for our sport.
Athletics Australia Chief Executive Officer Darren Gocher said: “This is a disappointing announcement to have to make. In these uncertain times, with state borders closed and government-enforced travel restrictions in place, the health and well-being of the athletics community must be at the forefront of every decision we make. We understand and truly appreciate the obvious disappointment for the athletes, coaches, officials and the broader athletics community that were preparing for, and looking forward to this year’s Championships. We will do everything we can to stage this event and hope to announce a new date as soon as possible.”
