Applications open for the 2019 Peter Norman Humanitarian Award
Published Tue 10 Sep 2019
The Peter Norman Humanitarian Award was inaugurated by Athletics Australia in 2018.
To be announced each year in association with Peter Norman Day on 9 October the recipient will be a member of the Australian athletics community who exemplifies the spirit of Peter Norman through their work for human rights, equality and humanitarian causes.
The initial recipient in 2018 was international athlete Eloise Wellings – acknowledging her role as a founding director of Love Mercy which exists to empower rural communities in Northern Uganda to overcome poverty caused by the horrors of decades of civil war.
Nominations are now sought from across the Australian athletics community to recognise a fellow member whose commitment to a cause would make them worthy of consideration for the Award in 2019 or a future year.
Any individual or organisation may make a nomination of any other individual. The only eligibility criteria is that the nominee has a direct involvement in Australian athletics. This can be as an athlete, coach, administrator, official, support personnel, – of any age - and at any level from a grassroots involvement to the elite level.
There is no set format so that nominations can be made in any format that best suits the nominator. A guide would be no more than a typed A4 page but may include links or references to any relevant documents, websites etc.
Nominations for the Award in 2019 should be emailed to Anne Lord, Awards Committee Chair by no later than 5pm on Friday 20 September 2019 – annelord@hotmail.com
