2023 Chemist Warehouse Australian All Schools Championships | Northern Territorians To Watch

Team Northern Territory at the Chemist Warehouse Australian All Schools Athletics Championships has grown from 3 athletes in 2022 to 20 this year, with school kids right across the territory set to lay their claim for national glory.

Check out some of the stars who are set to light up the track in Perth.

Lachlan Petri
U16 High Jump and 200m

Emerging as a fresh face in the world of athletics, Lachlan Petri’s journey from Sanderson Middle School to the NT Championships has been nothing short of impressive. Sharing the top spot in the high jump at the NT Championships alongside fellow newcomer Kevin Gurrawurra, this multi talented young gun’s dedication to training and his enthusiasm for his debut on a grand stage make him one to watch.

Kevin Gurrawurra
U16 High Jump, Long Jump and 100m

Hailing from the remote community of Ramingining in Arnhem Land, Kevin Gurrawurra’s prowess across multiple events is a testament to his natural athleticism. Showing great promise at the 2023 Rio Tinto Raise The Bar camp in Darwin, it came as no surprise when he clinched victories in each of his disciplines, and his potential to shine at the Australian All Schools Championships is undeniable.

Trent Bennetta
U17 100m, 200m and 400m

Sprinter Trent Bennetta’s meteoric rise since the 2022 Northern Territory Championships has been a sight to behold. The sole Territorian at the Chemist Warehouse Australian Junior Championships in April, his triumphant run at various championships including 11.27, 22.50 and 51.13 postings position him as a formidable contender across the sprint treble.

Dhungalla Ganambarr
U20 Ambulant 100m, 200m and Discus (T/F01)

Breaking barriers as a hearing-impaired athlete, Dhunggala Ganambarr from GanGan is a trailblazer in the making. As the first para athlete to participate in the Rio Tinto Raise The Bar camp and eargerness to explore various events showcase his determination to elevate his athletic journey, with a goal of qualifying for the Australian Athletics Championships in Adelaide next April.

Emily Hatton
U17 Long Jump and Triple Jump

A veteran of the sport at just 16, Emily Hatton lives and breathes athletics. As a child, she discovered her natural talents as a jumper, thanks to her genetic build and has been training hard this season to increase her personal bests. With rigorous training and a close-knit support system from her squad at Darwin Athletics, Emily aims to mark her mark in the pit and stand atop of the podium in both the long and triple jump.

Ella-Grace Douglas
U14 800m

Nhulunbuy local Ella-Grace Douglas is excited to bring her talents from East Arnhem Land to Perth. With no athletics track in her region, the 13-year-old runs laps on the local footy oval. She has stayed motivated since the NT Championships in September, by keeping in touch with her friend Riri, who will compete for Tasmania. They have motivated each other when it is too hot up north to train.

Reagan Horne
U17 100m and 200m

Athletics is a family affair for Reagan Horne, who relishes the diversity the sport offers. Excelling in sprints and jumps, her versatility sets her apart. She also loves competing in the discus and occasionally toes the line in middle distance events, saying she loves to run “but not too far!” Her passion and skill across multiple disciplines contribute to her multifaceted approach to competition.

Briseis Brittain
U17 PA 100m, 200m, Long Jump and Shot Put (T/F38)

A seasoned competitor with a wealth of experience in national competitions, Briseis Brittain’s natural talent shines through, despite having limited training opportunities in Ramingining. Her string of gold medals at the NT Championships in September cements her as a force to be reckoned with across both track and field events.

The 2023 Chemist Warehouse Australian All Schools Athletics Championships, supported by WA Tourism, is a three-day event that sees Australia’s best school-aged athletes compete in team-based competition. Tickets can be purchased here.
