Australian Athletics sends a variety of teams to international competition across the 4-year Olympic / Paralympic cycle.
View the individual event listing for information on representative teams.
Australian teams require a wide variety of Team Staff who can have a major impact on the collective and individual performance of the team. The number of Team Staff assigned to a representative competition and their roles and responsibilities depends on many factors including the team size, the age and experience of the athletes, the significance and location of the competition and the nature of the event (for example able-bodied, junior or Para track and field events, walks, road running, cross country, or a mixture of all or some of these elements).
Team staff positions are very limited. Every year we receive many more applications than team places, so not every applicant will have opportunities.
In general, Team Coaches and Team Managers are voluntary positions. However, AA will provide appropriate accreditation and team uniform, and will cover travel and accommodation costs for the tour.
Nominations for our 2025 teams can be submitted below. Nominations will close on 5 January 2025 at 17:00 AEDT.
Please see the Performance Support section for details.

As per World Athletics rules, Australian athletes competing overseas require a permit from Australia Athletics to compete. This includes all levels of athletes competing in any level of competition, including athletes on scholarship with a foreign university. A Meet Organiser or foreign university should not allow an athlete without a written permit to compete.
An athlete competing overseas without a permit is not covered by any of Australian Athletics' insurance policies. Please refer to the section on Travel Insurance when competing overseas for more details.
If you are a member of an official Australian Athletics Team, or are receiving support from Australian Athletics to compete overseas in preparation for an international team you DO NOT need to apply for a permit.
If you DID qualify for the Australian Track and Field Championships this season you MUST complete an International Permit Application and submit it to Australian Athletics. For a permit to be issued you will need to be currently registered with a Member Association and be in good standing (i.e. do not owe the Association money, are not under suspension for any reason etc).
You should apply for your permit prior to travel.
If you DID NOT qualify for the Australian Track and Field Championships (i.e. meet the Open Qualifying standards) this season you MUST complete an International Permit Application and submit it to your Member Association.
They will issue you with a permit if you are a currently registered athlete and of good standing (i.e. do not owe the Association money, are not under suspension for any reason etc).
