Jack Dalton

Jack started athletics aged five years, initially throwing the discus, by age 12 year he was concentrating on the hammer event under coach Gus Puopolo. In 2012, aged 17, he won the national junior hammer throw title with a distance of 66.39m (6kg). He was selected for the world junior team, however prior to departure he sustained a serious injury which kept him out of the sport until 2014. He re-merged domestically in 2015, and had decided to pursue his sport he need to move to Germany where he lived and trained each European summer in 2015, 2016 and 2017. He competed for TCV Bayer Leverkusen and trained alongside World champion Katharina Molitor. In May 2017, he nailed his PB of 68.28m in Leverkusen – elevating him to number 17 Australian all-time. Domestically in 2017/18 he was at his best ever, with six competitions over 66 metres. At the Australian Championships/CG trials he placed second and was the following week named in the team for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. 

He has a degree in sport science from Victoria University, he speaks German and his hobbies are golf, fishing and watching sport. Instrumental in his career have been Benn Harradine, who has mentored him since he was 12 and assisted him to move to Germany, his dad and coach Robert and former coach Gus Puopolo.
