Biography |
Benn Harradine was 23 when he made his international debut at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games. In his next Commonwealth appearance, in 2010, he won gold. Glasgow was his third Commonwealth Games where he finished just off the podium in fourth. He will be hoping to compete at his fourth on the Gold Coast in his adopted state of Queensland. The three-time Olympian achieved a best of ninth in London and also competed in Rio. A month before his win at the Commonwealth Games in 2010, he placed a brilliant second in the Continental Cup with a then Australian record distance of 66.45m. The 2017 London World Championships was his fifth appearance, with his highlight being in 2011 when he placed fifth. On his very last throw in the discus competition at the 2018 Australian Championships and selection trials, Harradine secured automatic selection for a record equalling fourth Commonwealth Games team by placing second to Matt Denny with another A-qualifying mark of 63.56m. Born and raised in Newcastle, he is a proud Indigenous man from the Watjabaluk/Wergia people of the Wimmera. He plays the guitar and sings.
