Biography |
Alex Hartmann participated in little athletics as a child but didn’t take athletics seriously until he was 16 when he was introduced to coach Travis Venema. He made his international debut in 2014 at the IAAF World Relays, followed by selection to the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Alex made a breakthrough in 2015 winning the national 200m title. In February 2016, he clocked a startling 20.46 in the 200m, the fastest time by an Aussie for nine years. He defended his 200m national crown and added the 100m title to his collection. He made his individual debut in the 200m at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games but did not progress from the Australia’s finest 200m athlete in recent years, Alex has steadily lowered his seasonal best in the 100m and 200 during the 2017/18 season. At the Australian Championships he placed an excellent fourth in a high quality domestic 100m, securing a likely relay position for the Commonwealth Games. Two days later, chasing an individual berth in the 200m he turned around his season form to clock statistically his his best ever time of 20.57 into a -2.1m/s wind; win his fourth consecutive national title, achieve a CG B standard and the prized individual event berth for the Games. Alex is a tall 1.98m. He has completed a Certificate 3 & 4 in Fitness and a Diploma in Business.
