High Performance Advisory Group
The High Performance Advisory Group (HPAG) provides advice and support to Athletics Australia with a view to enhancing the AA High Performance program. The HPAG brings together key personnel with relevant experience from AA, the domestic and international athletics communities and the Australian high performance sporting community to address and suggest action on major strategic issues within AA’s High Performance program.
The focus of the group is to:
- support and enhance medal outcomes at the next Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth Games and the IAAF and IPC World Championships;
- enhance the progress of other athletes towards future success at these benchmark events;
- maximise the strategic alignment and effective use of resources between AA and its key High Performance stakeholders (being the AIS, ASC, AOC, PA, CGA and NIN network);
- advise on AA’s High Performance strategic direction and plans; and
- assist with High Performance issues as they arise.
Coaching Advisory Group
The Athletics Coaching Advisory Group exists to provide strategic and technical advice to Athletics Australia Management across all aspects of coaching in Australian athletics.
Special Awards Committee
The Special Awards Committee manage and determine the awarding of Athletics Australia’s annual awards, major awards, the induction of members into the Hall of Fame, and conferring Life Governorship, Life Membership. The Committee also provides material assistance when required in relation to the nomination of a person to the Order of Australia Committee major international awards.
The Committee is also active in recognising Athletics Australia’s international representatives through the presentation of Bibs to those who have represented Australia at the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Commonwealth Games, World Track & Field Championships, IPC World Track & Field Championships, World Indoor Championships and World Cross Country Championships.
Audit, Finance and Risk Committee
The Audit, Finance and Risk Committee is comprised of AA directors as well as independent, external representatives and advise the Board on matters relating to:
- preparation, integrity and audit of the annual financial accounts and statements;
- legal, regulatory and risk management oversight including internal controls, policies and procedures that the organisation uses to identify and manage business risks;
- the organisation’s insurance activities;
- qualifications, independence, engagement, fees and performance of the organisation’s external auditor;
- budget and financial performance quarterly or as otherwise required; and
- strategy and progress against key strategic indicators periodically.
Nominations Committee
The Nominations Committee’s role is to ensure that the Board has the skills, diversity and values required for the good governance of the organisation.
The Nominations Committee comprises two directors of Athletics Australia, two Member Association Presidents (who rotate annually), and one independent member. Administrative support is provided by Athletics Australia management.
Ethics & Integrity Committee
The Ethics and Integrity Committee’s purpose is to assist the Board in fulfilling its oversight responsibilities relating to the integrity and ethics of the organisation and the sport. There are a broad range of matters that either the Board or the executive may refer to the Committee, including:
- policy, education and reporting requirements in relation to anti-doping, anti-match-fixing, and the organisation’s sports science sports medicine process;
- anti-illicit drugs and protective measures for the probity of the organisation and the athletes;
- oversight of the organisation’s member protection matters;
- Athletics Australia’s integrity and ethics framework and rules;
- other related matters affecting the integrity of the organisation and sport.
This committee operates on a referral basis. Due to its nature, the majority of the business of the Committee remains confidential.
Foundation Scholarship Committee
The Foundation Scholarship Committee appointed by the Athletics Australia Board assists the Board and AA Management, from time to time, in the provision and operation of a philanthropic fundraising program that invests in the development of the sport of athletics. The Committee provides updates to the Board on its program of fundraising activities and proposed scholarships and scholarship recipients.
RAP Committee
In developing our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), Athletics Australia commits to completing the actions within this RAP to ensure we are well-positioned to develop and deliver actions aimed at strengthening our relationships and improving outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.
The RAP Committee plays an important role in ensuring that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories and successes are celebrated, recognised and included in all aspects of our current and future strategic planning processes and are part of our everyday business and sporting activities.
Athletes' Advisory Committee
Athletics Australia is delighted to announce the re-launch of the Athletes’ Advisory Committee (formerly known as the Athlete Advisory group). The Athletes’ Advisory Committee consists of current high performance athletes and provides a mechanism for the views of high performance athletes to be heard.
The Athletes’ Advisory Committee members are; Cam Crombie (Chair), Ben Buckingham (Vice Chair), Rhydian Cowley (Secretary), Jaryd Clifford, Linden Hall, Mackenzie Little, Madi De Rozario, Steve Solomon.

Sport Delivery Committees
Technical Committee
Athletics Australia has reintroduced the Technical Committee. The Technical Committee works closely with the AA Sport Delivery Team to advise on all technical related matters.
The Technical Committee members are; Khan Sharp (Chair - V), Caroline Jackman (S), Zoe Eastwood-Bryson (S), Peter Hamilton (Q), Brian Roe (T)
Officials Operational Committee
The Officials Operation Committee members are; Brian Roe (Staff Liaison), Richard Lawysz (V), Helen Roberts (Q), Anthony Curry (Q), Fiona Brown (NT), Matthew Gleeson (N), Rachel Larking (S).
This committee look after and oversee Education, Evaluations, Selection, Mentoring and the Australian Standard of Officiating.
People and Culture Committee
Athletics Australia has created the Officials People & Culture Committee, the key focus areas are recruitment, retention and recognition, behavioural expectations and standards, and Officials’ event experience.
The committee will focus on the people of the sport, through listening to the lived experiences of our officials nationwide, to improve the culture, environment & experience for all our officials.
