Selection Policy Updates for Athletics Australia

Home | news | Selection Policy Updates for Athletics Australia

Selection Policies for Athletics Australia’s upcoming international teams are now available online, as athletes look to continue to build momentum towards the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.

Athletics Australia intends to send teams to compete at the following World Athletics Series events.

  • World Athletics Indoor Championships (March 13-15), Nanjing, China
  • World Athletics Half Marathon Championships (March 29), Gdynia, Poland
  • World Athletics Racewalking Team Championships (May 2-3), Minsk, Belarus

Head of High Performance and Coaching, Christian Malcolm, said that these final eight months building up to Tokyo were crucial for success on the biggest stage in athletics.

“Selection on these teams can be of such great benefit to athletes looking to make an Olympic Games, whether you’ve been an Olympian before, or it’s your first time,” Malcolm said.

“It’s a great chance to see and learn from the best in the world, and how they’re confronting the same challenges you are.

“There’s great hype and energy around these events. That’s not really something you can train for, so it’s important you take the opportunity whenever it comes along.”

Athletes can now nominate for all of the above events as well as see the updated policies, using the relevant portal on the AA website here.

Be sure to stay tuned for a special broadcast by Christian Malcolm on AA’s YouTube account @AthsAust in the coming weeks, where he will be chatting all things policies and teams.
