Melbourne teenager Isis Holt shook up the international Para-Athletics scene when, less than a year after taking up the sport “to try something new,” she broke world records in the 100m and 200m.

She cemented her place among the world’s best at the 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships in Doha, Qatar, where she shaved almost one second off her 200m world record to win gold. She won the 100m claiming the sprint double.

At the Rio Paralympics, she won silver in both events, before returning to a pair of gold medals at the London 2017 World Para Athletics Championships. In London in the 100m she broke her world record, lowering it from 13.57 to 13.43. In the 200m she reduced her own championships record of 28.57 to 28.47. In four events at the two world championships (2015 and 2017), Isis remains undefeated.

Her medal in London earned her automatic selection in the T35 100m for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. At the Australian Championships and Commonwealth Games trials she showed a liking for the Carrara venue, breaking her own T35 100m world record with a time of 13.37. A few weeks later at the Australian Junior Championships and without tapering, she again broke her 100m world record – this time to 13.36.

Coached by Nick Wall, the Canberra-born charge says that while setting new world records has been a great experience, what she is most proud of is being able to prove that having a disability does not stop you from achieving your goals. Isis hopes to use her success to inspire others and change perceptions.

Off the track, Isis enjoys writing, reading, drama, and is also a budding equestrian. She loves to watch The Great Gatsby and Wentworth and says that if she ever came down to her last $10, she would spend it on Lindt chocolate.
