Athletics Australia has today (Friday 18th December 2015) published the Nomination Policy for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games on 7-18th September 2016.
With the aim of nominating the most competitive athletics team to the Australian Paralympic Committee to represent Australia at the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janiero (BRA), the policy is aligned with the Athletics Australia Strategic Plan and the Australian Institute of Sport’s Winning Edge Program.
The new IPC Qualification System entry process will make qualification for Rio 2016 tougher than for any recent Paralympic Games. Therefore, Athletics Australia will nominate the maximum number of individual athletes and relay squads eligible within this policy, with the only caveat being that athletes show sufficient form and fitness to represent themselves and Australia to the best of their ability.
In those cases where more athletes qualify for an event than can compete under the IPC Qualification System, the Athletics Australia Selectors will be guided by this policy and prioritise those athletes who are likely to be the most competitive, as determined in their sole and absolute discretion.
All athletes and coaches are strongly encouraged to download and read this document in full to ensure that they are aware of the complete nomination process for the Paralympic Games.
